BASIN is devoted to the dissemination of professional advice and information relating to appropriate and proven building technologies and systems.
BASIN was established in 1988 to provide information and advice on appropriate building technology and to create links with know-how resources in the world for all those in need of relevant information. basin is a coalition of experts with world-wide experience in all aspects of the building sector. basin aims to:

maximize returns from local resources and skills in the field of low-cost building,
collect and provide customer-oriented information on appropriate technologies for cost-effective building and low-cost housing,
stimulate popular initiative and profitable investment in the provision of low-cost housing.

BASIN has had the tradition of extending support to the developing countries as it was initially established by four organizations – GATE, ITDG, SKAT and CRATerre based in Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland and France respectively. In recent years it has expanded to include Shelter Forum in Kenya, Development Alternatives in India and CEVE in Argentina.
